Valentine’s Day-Lake Oconee Ritz Carlton

January of 2011 will soon be a thing of the past and Valentine’s Day (February 14th which is a Monday) will be upon us before you know it. Perhaps this blog is for all the male followers out there as I am fully aware of this ridiculous holiday’s ability to strike fear and worry in the hearts of every man. It is, however, the little things that keep us lady types happy and for that reason I’d like to try and help you out with a few ideas for Valentine’s Day around Lake Oconee. Valerie Lipscomb, Travel Industry Sales Manager for the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, was kind enough to send me some great info on packages they are offering as well as the special menu’s for the evening.

The “Just for the Romance” package is running the entire month of February so if the actual day doesn’t work out for you and that special someone, surprise her some other time during the month! Personally, something of the sort would be a lot more special on a day other than Valentine’s Day because it’s the unexpected that means the most. Starting at $309 during the week, this package includes overnight accommodations in a resort-view room, valet parking, a welcome bottle of sparkling wine with chocolate covered strawberries, and breakfast in bed.

Got kiddos? No problem. The “Family Affair,” starting at $399 per night, package includes overnight accommodations in a resort-view room, valet parking, full breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children at  Georgia’s Bistro, a special Valentine’s welcome amenity, a special $150 rate for an additional connecting room in case you want to have a place all to yourselves for the night, and a “Kids Night Out” from 6-9 p.m. for children ages 5-12. Perfect opportunity for Mom & Dad to slip off for a nice, romantic dinner.

Gaby’s will be open all of Valentine’s Day weekend and in honor of the holiday has created a special “Aphrodisiac” Menu a la Carte which includes oysters on the half shell, crispy red fish with asparagus, grilled new york strip with lavender honey glazed organic carrots, and chocolate fondue for two. Complimentary roses will be offered to all ladies on Saturday evening.

Georgia’s Bistro will also be serving specials for Valentine’s Day featuring a “His & Her’s”  available a la Carte or as a tasting menu. As a tasting menu the first course, love bites to share, includes items like goat cheese mousse with spiced pecans and tuna tartare. Second courses include braised pork belly for him and apricot risotto for her. Next enjoy sharing your third course of Savannah crab cake and “bone-in” cowboy ribeye. Still got room left? Dessert consists of a chocolate molten cake and a peanut butter custard.

Perhaps you’re in the mood for something a little more low key? Well come enjoy “Chocolate, Cordials, and Corks” in the Lobby Lounge. On Friday, February 11th, Executive Pastry Chef David Nolan will be serving up a decadent chocolate buffet with over 20 items to choose from! Nibble on yummy treats, sip champagne, and watch as he creates a 5 foot tall chocolate art piece. This event is $17 a person.

Cuscowilla also offers a Valentine’s Day package so check out their website for more info. Best of luck planning and if I hear of anything else I’ll be sure to let you know!
