The past two days I’ve been walking for the first time since September. Right before our wedding I got bronchitis and as a result lost some weight. My tailor told me I couldn’t lose any more or my dress would be too big. I took that comment and ran with it. Straight to the nearest Mexican restaurant. I haven’t looked back since. With the amazing weather it’s felt so incredible to get outside and be active again after my five month hiatus. If you’re like me you might need a little inspiration to get up and get moving. The Swamp Stomp 5K For Kaye being held this Sunday at Gatewood Schools in Eatonton is just that!
Kaye Gregory Cheshire, formerly of Eatonton, who attended Gatewood Schools, passed away in July of 2006 from a brain aneurysm. Having been a stand-out athlete in her years at Gatewood, the Swamp Stomp is held in her honor to raise money for the school’s Female Athletic Program(s).
“All around she was incredible athlete,” said Cindy Gregory, Kaye’s sister-in-law and owner of On Cloud 9 in Eatonton. “She ran track, played basketball, and was good at anything she ever did. Gatewood Schools weight room is named after her.”
Sunday’s race activities include a 1 mile Fun Run starting at 2:30 p.m. and a 5K Road Race starting at 3:00. Race Day Registration is still open and is $20 per individual. A $10 “no shirt” registration is available anytime between now and Sunday. Awards will be given out in categories including Overall and Master Male/Female, Overall Gatewood Student Male/Female, Overall Gatewood Alumnus Male/Female, and Top Finishers in age groups beginning with 8 and under to 75 and over.

Earlier today I noticed the little fella in the picture on my windshield as I was pulling out of my driveway on my way to a meeting. Call it curiosity or perhaps a bit of boredom but I decided to see just how long he hung on for the ride. I reset my mileage gauge and off we went. 7.8 miles. Not that far right? Well, if you’re the size of a ladybug that’s a LONG way. Perhaps like me moving from Atlanta to Lake Oconee (approximately 75 miles), maybe? Figured he might be a little confused and need a little guidance on where to go and what to do.
In this guys case he went from living in Greene County to Putnam County so his little ones will need to switch from Lake Oconee Academy to Gatewood Schools. He’ll probably want to continue to support Greene County Chamber of Commerce but throw support to The Eatonton-Putnam Chamber as well. The Yesterday Cafe in downtown Greensboro will be a bit more of a fly for him now but well worth it for their famous Buttermilk Pie. He’ll be super excited that Lake Oconee’s most popular restaurant, The Silver Moon, is now just right down the street! On Tuesday nights he’ll cross the bridge and go to El Chaparro in the Lake Oconee Village for $2 tacos but he’ll also need to try the best Mexican restaurant in Putnam County, El Agave.
Feeling a little heavy around the wings after all that eating? Fortuantely for him Bodyplex is minutes down the road. If he’s in the mood for a real butt whoopin’, he’ll need to go see Vince DiLetto at LOOP (Lake Oconee Optimal Performance)! Little sore from all that moving around? He should try pampering himself at The Blue Giraffe Salon & Spa or at The Ritz-Carlton Georgia Spa Resort.
When a cluster of his ladybug friends come in town, he should take them to Who Cares Bar & No Grill or Longshots for a few cocktails! But PLEASE don’t drink and fly! Instead call The Lakeside Company and arrange a ride home. Not really a drinking crowd? Maybe they’d prefer to get in a few rounds of golf at any of Reynolds Plantation’s six golf courses or a movie at Spotlight Theaters. If he doesn’t have enough room for all of his friends in his new house, he can always direct them towards The Lodge On Lake Oconee or The Ritz-Carlton Lodge as great places to stay.
So where did I take the little guy? Where will he now call home? The Waterfront on Lake Oconee! It’ll take no time at all for him to fit right in to his luxury condo where he’ll relish in his unobstructed views of Lake Oconee. He and the family will be able to enjoy all the amenities and convenience of a luxurious vacation retreat at an affordable price!
No doubt he’s going to love it here on Lake Oconee so much that he’ll tell all of his friends. They’ll fly into town and once they see how enjoyable life here can be they’ll definitely want to stay. And who better to call to help them with all of their real estate needs than Marge at Large!?
Whether someone is looking for full time residency, second home, or a weekend getaway, prerequisites often heard in the hunt for property here on Lake Oconee are private frontage, deep water, and good location. Oh, and did I mention there are a lot of Buyers who want that for less than $300K? Once a bit of a challenge, now when I hear that I know right where to take them. The Waterfront on Lake Oconee. The Waterfront offers beautiful lake side condos with fantastic amenities, a marina onsite, and it is all at very affordable pricing. To enjoy a worry-free lake life style all you would have to do is show up and turn the key.
I’d love to tell you more about the opportunities that await you at The Waterfront on Lake Oconee so please give me a call at (706)817-1372, or email me at email@example.com.

Rumor has it that this morning Governor Nathan Deal is expected to announce The Opening Of A Caterpillar Plant In Oconee County which has the potential to bring with it up to 2,000 jobs. What an incredible boost this could be for our local economy!
According to 11alive.com, sources say the plant will relocate to Oconee near Athens from Japan to manufacture backhoes and other small machinery.

It’s almost time for the 3rd Annual Lake Oconee Food & Wine Festival! The date has been bumped a bit from last year and is being held in March instead of May so don’t wait around and miss out on your chance at tickets. The weekend’s events, being held at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation, kick off March 23rd with The Vintner Dinner at The Linger Longer Ballroom. Saturday’s Festival events include tastings by Gaby’s, Georgia’s Bistro, and Linger Longer Steakhouse, over 100 different types of wine, and an extensive silent auction. Drew and I went last year and had a great time!
The Festival is organized by Gatewood Schools with all proceeds benefiting the academic and enrichment programs. There is nothing better than a fun event that helps support the kids of our local schools!
